Accreditation
New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), 3624 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104 (267-284-5000). MSCHE is an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
In 2022, NJIT successfully completed its self-study and was re-accredited by MSCHE through 2030. The visiting team commended the university for its strong alignment with MSCHE Standards for Accreditation and Requirements of Affiliation, issuing only one recommendation related to the assessment of NJIT’s General Education Requirements (GER). The next self-study evaluation is scheduled for the 2029–2030 academic year.
For additional information, please visit NJIT's MSCHE institution page and review the standards of accreditation.
In addition to MSCHE accreditation, most of NJIT’s eligible professional programs, both undergraduate and graduate, are accredited by the appropriate specialized accrediting bodies for their fields. Contact information for these agencies is provided below. Program-specific accreditation details can be found in each degree description, along with links to the relevant accrediting body.
Originally founded in 1932 as the Engineers’ Council for Professional Development (ECPD), in 1980, became the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology to more accurately describe the emphasis on accreditation. In 2005, began using the acronym ABET only. There are four accreditation commissions that lead and conduct ABET accreditation activities. These commissions are responsible for reviewing educational programs and making the final accreditation decision for each program.
